Surgeon and Patient Video-ENSEAL G2 Articulating

Cincinnati--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ethicon Endo-Surgery (Ethicon) today announced that it has received the International Bronze Design Excellence Award (IDEA) from the Industrial Designers Association of America (IDSA) in recognition of its contribution to ENSEAL ® The innovation of G2 articulated tissue sealing machine.

"At Ethicon, our commitment to providing strategic design and consistent value is a team process driven by observational insights, procedural knowledge, and the ultimate goal of positively impacting patient outcomes," said Steve Eichmann, Director of Industrial Design and Human Factors Research and Development Said. "We thank IDSA for recognizing our customer-oriented innovation and the progress represented by the ENSEAL® G2 articulated tissue sealer for patients and healthcare providers."

IDSA recognizes the innovative design of the ENSEAL® G2 joint tissue sealer, which enables surgeons to access tissues in deep or narrow spaces, as well as perform operations behind the corners and structures of the body. This is the first articulated advanced energy device of its kind, enabling surgeons to use a vertical method to cut and seal blood vessels up to 7 mm in diameter and lymphatic vessels passing through 5 mm ports. Flexible joints are articulated at 55 degrees on each side (110 degrees in total) without sacrificing shaft stiffness, while articulated wheels allow users to lock the required approach angle in place to maintain stability.

As a bronze medal winner, the ENSEAL® G2 articulated tissue sealing machine will appear in IDEA 2014 web gallery, IDSA Innovation Magazine's Fall Excellence Design Yearbook and various design media channels. As one of IDEA's award-winning designs, the ENSEAL® G2 articulated tissue sealer will also be added to the Henry Ford Museum's exhibition to share and preserve the story of American innovation.
